I have a deep appreciation for the shooting sports. I love spending time in field and on a course with friends, chasing waterfowl, upland game or merely braking clay targets on a sporting clays course. I love it so much that two years ago I became an Illinois Certified Wing shooting Instructor. I believe that if we pass on what we know our sport will grow. So with that being said I have cleaned a lot of guns and I have used a lot of cleaning agents. Most working to one degree or another, most smelling so bad that my wife had me clean them outside. Not fun in January in the Midwest! So when I was approached to try Centerfire's new Weapon CLP I was thrilled at the opportunity although guarded because with solutions of this nature, I no longer impress easily, but I am always willing to try anything to help with the longevity of my firearms. What follows is my account of the New Centerfire Weapon CLP.
Centerfire is owned by Shawn Stahl and Steve Thomas. Both of them lifelong friends who have been in the firearms industry for a long time and are passionate about it. They have experience in metallurgy, hazardous materials and mechanical engineering so together they set out to develop an eco-friendly, biodegradable product that lubricates as it cleans. The result is Weapon CLP. After talking with Shawn, I received a bottle in the mail along with a thick slip resistant cleaning mat. The product could not have arrived at a better time. That weekend I was instructing a wing shooting class in central, Illinois and I knew that as usual the guns we use to instruct the students are usually left for "the next instructor" to clean so I took mine home with me that night to clean it.

The IDNR guns we use are Remington 1100 28 gauge guns. Great firearms that seem to stand up to the hardest of wear, however, my philosophy is if you fire it, clean it. So I took the 1100 apart to see what I had to deal with and put the Centerfire cleaning solution though the test. Once apart, I could easily see I had my work cut out for me. The gun was a black mess and the interior barrel was full of residue. The bolt action was slow to respond and you get the idea, it needed help. I started on the barrel by spraying the C.L.P. into the barrel and let it run the length of it. I then let it set while I assembled the cleaning rod and brush. I gave it the once over and proceeded to then run patches through the gun. I went through a dozen patches with the C.L.P. still removing dirt and fowling. As the patches started to come out clean, I look down the barrel. An obvious shine was left in the barrel, a shine that gun had not seen in a long time.
I next sprayed the C.L.P. into the receiver and then took out the action to and sprayed the solution on it. I let it sit for a minute or so noticing that I did not have that real "greasy" feeling on my hands. So then I proceed to clean the rest of the gun. As I was doing so, my wife commented that the Weapon CLP actually had a low pleasant order to it and if I continued to use it, that it was ok to clean the gun in the house because she did not get a headache from the lingering smell left behind from previous cleaning products. Ok, so I jumped that hurdle, however, I had to see what the bolt action of the 1100 looked like as that was extremely important to this review. After some easy cleaning, I can honestly tell you that Remington had never looked better and the bolt action was now crisp, quick and highly responsive.
With the gun back together I decided to try the product on the outside of the gun as well. I was told it was ok to do so and the way this gun looked, anything would be a step up. So to say I was pleasantly surprised to see the character of the wood grain brought back to life would be an understatement. The 1100 Remington looked great! The next day we instructed students in a light rain for most of the day. By the day's end, I could still tell which gun was the one I was using in a rack of identical 28 gauges. The shine and cleanliness of the firearm really stood out. The Weapon CLP had done its job.
As I stated in the beginning of this review, all cleaning agents seem to work in one way or another. What impressed me most about the Centerfire Weapon CLP the most was that I used a non-toxic, non abrasive, low order solution, which not only cleaned but lubricates and preserves as well. I don't need two to three bottles anymore. I feel confident using this product because it easily did what it said it would do, it worked.
